The factors that contribute to skin aging are hereditary factors, so it’s always good to have good parents. And also environment such as the sun exposure factor. The other things are how well a patient actually cares for their skin day and night. And I think skin is the largest structure that we have in our body, but it’s also something that we carry with us everywhere. I mean you can change your clothes but you can’t change your skin. So it’s important that people make a commitment to maintaining their skin and preserving it.

I think facial fillers are one of the best advances in plastic surgery because they can be applied to patients that are young, patients that are middle aged, patients that are old. Many patients will consider having fillers because they don’t want to have surgery, they want a natural outcome, and there are so many choices as far as the actual filling material. We have things like collagen, we have the aleuronic acid fillers such as Restylane, Juvederm, and then Radiesse which is a more longer lasting filler.

Eyebrows are so important to the face. They frame the face. And when I assess a patient for eyelid surgery I have to look at their eyebrows. Many times the aging in the eyelid is actually due to the brow so you have to educate the patient and show them how much more open their face would look if their brows were lifted. Sometimes they don’t like to hear that because many patients are so afraid of having that old fashioned kind of brow lift result which was the I’m surprised look, and today what’s great is we have so many procedures that we can do to rejuvenate the eyebrows, put them in a natural position and have the patient actually looking better without looking plastic.

Droopy eyelids are common and I think it’s a great introduction to plastic surgery is to consider an eyelid procedure because the eyes light up the face. And what you want to do is you want to have a result where the eyes look very bright and they look soft and you don’t want a result that looks very pulled and unnatural. You want to minimize the scars and you want to maximize their appearance.

Everyone that comes in for a rhinoplasty usually wants a nose that looks smaller but that’s not always the best thing for them. What you want is a nose that looks better and a nose that looks natural. And the way to achieve those is basically to sculpt the nose in such a way as to remove humps, to narrow the bridge of the nose, to bring the nostrils in if they’re too wide, and to overall give a result that looks very natural, that fits with the patient’s face, and also fits with their ethnicity.

The thread lift is the innovative procedure because what it does is it actually rejuvenates the face without any true surgical incisions, and what you use is you use special sutures to support the skin and the underlying structures of the face and move them in a very natural way so that you can lift brows and you can augment cheeks and you can clean up brow lines without any incisions at all.

My philosophy on contouring of the face involves creating a natural look to the face, that is so important. Nobody wants to see a patient coming at them and say, they’ve had a face lift. So what that involves is actually having the skill to move these structures in such a way that you create a very youthful and natural look to the face. That involves the brows, the eyelids, the cheek, the neckline, and also will also involve and element of smoothing the wrinkles of the face through the resurfacing procedures.

The Titan procedure is a non invasive procedure, takes about an hour, and topical aesthetic is delivered to the skin and an infrared light is passed into the skin, into the dermis where the collagen is, and the collagen is remodeled and restructured and over time that will produce tighter and smoother skin.

There are essentially two different kinds of tummy tucks which are termed abdominoplasty, and the first is a mini abdominoplasty and that is an operation that involves contouring of the lower abdomen. Many women will have had children and they have a lot of stretch in their lower abdomen, and by simply taking out the extra skin in the lower abdomen and then minimizing the scar so it lies right above the pubic hairline will allow the patient to have an excellent outcome, and then that’s often combined with liposuction of the abdomen. So you can really create a waistline and then give them a nice flat tummy from the mini abdominoplasty.

Well let me say first that I love liposuction because I love art, I love sculpture, and liposuction truly is sculpting the body. And the result is immediate, so it’s very satisfying. Now the areas most commonly addressed are the thighs, the abdomen, the hips, the flank areas, sometimes the outer side of the chest combining that with a breast reduction, and then of course the neck. Oftentimes I will combine neck liposuction at the time of facial contouring surgery.
